Guidance and Counseling Services

Counseling is an integral part of the district’s educational program.  The primary purpose of counseling is to address the personal/social, educational and career awareness needs of all district students.  The focus is to educate the whole person, enabling students to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to become positive, productive members of society.

The elementary school counselor counsels……..

  •  To help children develop self-understanding.

  •  To provide opportunities for a child to talk about his educational, personal and social concerns.
  •  To help a child recognize, understand and work through learning difficulties.
  •  To help a child better adjust to his school and home.
  •  To help a child learn to make decisions.
  •  To help a child feel worthwhile.

Individual counseling is available to all students.  Counseling can be arranged as particular needs arise.  Bereavement, divorce, social skills, peer relations, anger, etc. are all issues that can be discussed.  Classroom teaching such as conflict management, bullying, career education, refusal skills, tolerance, anger management, study skills, career education and understanding sexual harassment are addressed.

Frederic A. Priff also has trained peer mediators to help your child with peer related matters.  If your child is having friendship difficulties with another student they can request peer mediation to help guide them to a win/win solution. This process is done in a confidential manner under the counselor’s supervision.

If you have any concerns with your child please don’t hesitate to contact the guidance office.   Frederic A. Priff employs a full time school counselor by the name of Anita Crowley.  Mrs. Crowley possesses a certificate in Student Personnel Services K-12, an Elementary Teaching Certificate and is certified as a Substance Awareness Coordinator.  She has 13 years experience as a school counselor and four years experience as a certified teacher.
