Guidance and Counseling Services
Counseling is an integral part of the district’s educational program. The primary purpose of counseling is to address the personal/social, educational and career awareness needs of all district students. The focus is to educate the whole person, enabling students to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to become positive, productive members of society.
The Ocean Township School District provides school counseling to children in grades pre-K-6. School counselors work in both buildings, offering students individual and small group counseling, classroom counseling lessons, and the after school enrichment programs.
School counselors can work individually with students as needs arise. Please call your child's counselor if you have concerns about: social skills, problem-solving, feeling expression, stress management, or other issues which impact your child during the school day. Your child's counselor can also provide a list of local therapists who can appropriately address your mental health concerns.
School counselors coordinate the district’s Intervention and Referral Services and 504 Plans for students needing additional support in the classroom.
School counselors also serve as the School Anti-Bullying Specialist, District Homeless Liaison, Liaisons to Child Welfare Authorities and school Substance Abuse Coordinators.
The counseling department also provides assistance to students and families as the need arises. Clothing, school supplies and holiday assistance can be provided upon request.
